ARREST AT OTOROHANGA.
i RESULT OF AN INQUEST.
EGHO OF A STREET DISTURBANCE.

The inquest into the cause of the death of Walter Howard Swainsou was held at Otorohauga. Evidence was given by several witnesses to the effect that deceased was struck by S. D. Chiids on June 27 and deceased knocked him down. After a! scuffle, Chiids went away and returned with a bottle in each hand and struck Swainson on the head. Swainsou again hit Chiids, and appeared all right for over a week. Afterwards ho complained of a bad head and died ten days after the assault.
A post mortem revealed a fracture of the temporal bone which was diseased. Medical testimony was given that the fracture could have been caused by football, a sudden jar, over-exer-tion, or a blow on the face, or on the head. The verdict was returned that the jury was of opinion that death was caused by compression of the brain due to a fracture diseased temporal bone, and that the fracture was caused »y injuries received during a street disturbance. Chiids was arrested on a charge of causing his death, and was remanded for a week. Bail was allowed of £IOO in his own recognizance and two sureties of £75.
