TJie Prime Minister, on Tuesday, in answer to Mr Wilkinson, who suggested that the Government should consider the question of the establishment of a Commercial Board for the ’Dominion on smewhat similar lines to the Boards of Inter-state Commerce in the United States of America and the Commonwealth of Australia, said that inquiries will he made regarding the operations of the Australian Board and the matter will receive careful consideration.—The matter was strongly urged on the Government’s attention by the member for Egmont in the Honse (states the Hawera Star correspondent). He stated that owing to the operations of a shipping ring a ship which brought a large consignment to New Plymouth was unable to carry general cargo for England. This involved heavy losses to Taranaki business people. Ho contended that monopolies were operating in sugar, tobacco and oil. If a Board such as he advocated was in existence it could do immense service to the community. Mr Wilkinson referred to the operations of the Standing Board of Inquiry in Australia. A meeting of the Egmont Liberal League was hold at Kapouga on Wednesday evening, there being a representative attendance (states the Argus). Mr ,T. Crowley notified the gathering that he could not see his way to come forward as Liberal candidate at the forthcoming election. Two other names were before the meeting, but no decision was arrived at, the meeting being adjourned for a fortnight.
