AT THE BARRIER. The executive of the contest state for the infm-mation of all persons who are selling tickets for their respective candidates, that all tickets must be filled in with the candidate’s number and name, and are retained by the seller to place in the ballot box, or who must ensure the purchaser places them in a ballot box. All supporters of the Friendly Societies’ candidate (Miss Cramer) willing to help on committees are invited to meet at the Borough Council Chambers on Saturday evening at 8 o’clock. Messrs Mullen and Marshall are making a special window show on behalf of each candidate in the Carnival Queen contest, and will devote their show window in one week y to each candidate in succession. Supporters of the sports candidate, Miss Minnie Hignett (Red and Black) are' reminded of the meeting this evening at Messrs Jackson’s office at 8, o’clock. A minstrel troupe and brass band, whose members number about a dozen, have arranged a programme for Saturday night in Broadway, when there will be some fun, as the various items hre stated to be quite rare. The proceeds will be devoted to the Fire Brigade’s candidate, Mrs George Smith (Royal blue and white). A special meeting of the members of the Egmont Club is to be held on Tuesday, 21st July, for the purpose of supporting a candidate for the Carnival Queen. • v The 1 Operatic Society wish it to be understood that they are supporting those candidates who are members of their Society and are candidates in the contest.
