THE STRATFORD BAND.
It has been suggested, and there is at least a good deal of merit in the suggestion, that it would add to the success of the Carnival Queen Contest if definite objects were set out and a goal aimed at in the amount of money to be raised, so that supporters and contributors would know exactly what purpose the funds raised are to bo devoted to. So far as the Beautiflying Society is concerned, a genera] outline of the work it proposes has previously been given, but it would be almost impossible to raise more money than this excellent body could spend with advantage to the town. The Band also might possibly aim at a complete and up-to-date set of new instruments and, if they so decide, make the fact widely known. Possibly this has been already done, or at least is a part of the scheme in hand. New instruments and new uniforms are certainly needed. That there are good musicians in the Band was made evident by its performance in the recent competition at Hawera, and townsmen recognise, we are sure, that it is an institution well worthy of support.
