FEMALE KLEPTOMANIAC.

[Per Press Association.] Auckland, July 15. Another case of shop-lifting in Karangahape road, in circumstances which point to a shrewd system, was detected yesterday afternoon. Shortly before two o’clock a wide-awake tradesman observed a woman, who was accompanied by a child of thirteen years, and was wheeling a baby in a perambulator, stop at his shop window and handle the goods -put outside for display. He kept a wary eye on her,' and saw her furtively slip a boot into the pram, whereon he went out and at the same time summoned a constable. The constable took the party to the Newton police station, where it was discovered that the baby was covered, if not with a multitude, at least with the proceeds of a number of thefts. In addition to the infant and the boot, the pram held half-a-dozen pillow slips, a pair of boots and a. pinafore, all obviously new.

When the woman appeared before the Justices she was convicted and fined £B, with costs.
