THE BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.
"MY CONSCIENCE!" XPKB PEEfIB ASSOCIATION ] Wellintgon, July .14. A deputation of the electors of Wellington Central urged Mr Fisher this morning; to support the Bible in Schools Referendum Bill. Dr. Gibb said their appeal wan thoroughly democratic. They were extremely anxious that the * question should iiot come into the sphere of party politics. Mr Fisher said he felt that, having expressed his views in the House that he was against both the referendum and the Bible in schools, nothing could justify him in reversing his vote, unless ha went before his constituents. In view of recent developments, the proper course, he thought, would he for him, when he went before tho electors, to say that in priniciple he believed in the referendum, but fie intended to vote "No" on tltfs occasion. If ho had the courage to vote according to his election promises and conscience and had to go under, be could not help it.
