At the annual conference of the Farmers 1 and Settlers' Association 400 delegates are sitting. The retiring president said that in the event of a struggle with the workers' union, the farmers themselves would see their produce aboard the ships. BROKEN HILL DEBENTURES. Melbourne, July 15. The Broken Hill proprietary's debenture issue was substantially overapplied, the subscriptions totalling £744,000.
A RISE IN BOOTS. Melbourne, July 15. The boot manufacturers are increasing the prices five per cent. GOLD AND COAL. The Mines Department's report for 1913 shows that the gold yield was 431,932 ounces, valued at £1,847,472, being a decrease of 45,198 ounces compared to the previous year. Coal amounted to 593,912 tons, valued at £274,371, being an increase of 4470 tons.
THE MEAT INDUSTRY. (Received 9.45 a.m.) Sydney, July 15. In the Legislative Assembly the debate on the Address-in-Reply was continued. Mr Thrower, referring to the meat industry, said: "We know that Swift's and Kidman have agents in every district. They have every head of cattle marked up, even buying unborn cattle." OBJECTION TO WAGES BOARDS. Sydney, July 15. Six large unions representing GO,000 members are protesting against the creation of Wages Boards on craft lines. A circular explaining the reasons lias been distributed among the State Labor members.
