LOSS TO UNITED STATES. HUGE ILLICIT TRADE. ( By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] Times and Sydney Sun Services. Xew York. July 11 • The Government is losing half a million sterling through the diamond smuggling that is carried on by secret agents on the Continent and in England. From recent disclosures in the case of a jewellery firm*which became bankrupt, the detectives calculate that £IO,OOO worth is monthly smuggled into the United States across the Canadian frontier.
