Madame Melba has arrived at Fremantle by the Orsova, states a cablegram.
The Christchurch, "Press,", of ,last Monday, says: It is no exaggeration to say that by the death of Mr Isaac Gibbs, General Manager of the New Zealand Shipping Company, Christchurch has lost one of her finest citizens. Although handicapped by illhealth for many years, he maintained a bright and cheery disposition, and his indomitable courage not only prolonged his life many years after a man of less spirit and will power would have given up the struggle, but even in his worst illness, except for a week or two, when he hung between life and death, he continued his work and gave to the company he served so well the benefit of his wise, counsel and shrewd business insight. A man of fine character and unflinching integrity, he made many friends, who esteemed it a privilege know him, and the example which he set of modesty, of disposition, of high ideals of duty, and of manly, Christian fortitude under stress of bodily suffering, will be cherished as a very precious memory by all who knew him.
