CARNIVAL QUEEN CONTEST
NOMINATION DAY POSTPONES TILL 15iH INST. The executive of the Carnival Queen contest met. in Messrs Halliwell ami Thomson’s office, Teuton Street, on Saturday night, His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. P. Kirkwood) presiding. The lirst business was the question of extension of time for receiving nominations, as it was generally agreed that insufficient time had been allowed the various bodies in which to come to a decision in regard to their candidates, ft was resolved on the motion of Messrs C. Ford and T. Marshall that the time he extended till Wednesday. July loth, at 5 «p.m. f 1 was reported that the secretaries bad received numerous applications from residents asking whether they would ho allowed to nominate a friend, and replies had been sent pointing out that only public bodies wore eligible in nominating candidates, and that such names should ho forwarded for consideration to any society or body that might he favoured among the following:—A. and P. Association (country girl), Friendly Societies, Football and Sporting bodies, Fire Brigade, Mountain Club, Operatic Society, Horticultural Society, Scottish Society, and Territorials. It, was resolved to invite those bodies to send delegates to the executive meetings. The T°ko Settlors Association and Whangamomona are to ho asked to nominate candidates: The next meeting of the executive will ho held in Messrs Halliwell and Thomson’s office on Wednesday, 15th hist., at 7.30 p.m.
