It is - stated that when arrested Ryan was in possession of an automatic pistol, loaded in seven chambers. Another man and three women detained as the result of the raid were released after a severe, cross-examina-tion. Ryan was to-day formally charged with complicity in the Eveleigh. robbery. The police, in asking for a remand, stated that they had expected that when Ryan was sent back to Sydney he would be accompanied by another “wanted” man, but owing to the indiscreet paragraphs in the papers it appeared that the whole of the police work would prove abortive, and that Ryan would return alone. Tn asking for a substantial bail, Detective Burnett described Ryan as one of the most desperate criminals in Australia. A remand was granted, bail being fixed at £2OOO. Detectives exhaustively searched the house where Ryan was arrested. Finally? by pulling down the fireplace, they found a jar containing 65 onepound notes. , They are practically certain that the whole of the proceeds of the Eveleigh hold-up are hidden in Melbourne. The search continues. Further arrests are anticipated.
