Mr Edmond Payne, the actor, is dead, reports a London cablegram. ’ I ; . f' V ” " ' Mr Oliver Samuel, of New Plymouth, is (the New’s understands) to be re-appointed to the Legislative Council. - , Mr John Macßae, of Weraiti station, has made a gift of £IOOO to the Maaterton branch of the Y.M.C.A. Mr J, A. McLeod, inspector of the Bank of Australasia, who for the past few days has been inspecting the Stratfora branch, left for the south this morning. Mr W. Y. Kirkman, who has held the position of Inanager of the Stratford Dairy Factory for the past three years, has tendered his resignation, having been appointed manager of a big factory being built at Waiuku by the New Zealand Dairy Association. . Mr C. J. Ryan is again a candidate for a seat on the Taranaki Land Board as Crown tenants’ representative. Mr Ryan claims twenty years’ experience as a settler, and his experiences and sympathies are, quite naturally, those of the men he desires to represent. The! butter-maker of the Kairanga dairy factory, ‘which scored so heavily at the National Dairy Show at Palmerston, is Mr R* A. Lilley, late of Midhirst, and stepson of Mr F. Kleeman, manager of the Midhirst factory. Mr Lilley obtained his whole training at Midhirst, and his successes reflect credit on the factory where he learnt his business. Another ex-Midhirst employee, Mr F. Huse, also scored heavily in grading at the same show.
