The £3600 Steal.

THE EVELEIGH ROBBERY. REMANDED UNTIL FRIDAY. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] XUnited Prkbb Association.] Sydney, July 1. Freeman, Tatliam and Twiss were further remanded until Friday in connection with the Eveleigh hold-up. The police stated that in view of an important development in- the case a remand was necessary. The prinicpal had been arrested in Melbourne, and the proceeds, or the bulk of the money recovered. Twiss’ and Tatham’s bail was reduced to £SOO. Subsequently Freeman v was committed for trial on a charge of attempting to discharge an automatic pistol at Constable Hooper, with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm, MELBOURNE STREET SENSATION ARREST OF ALLEGED PRINCIPAL Melbourne, July 1. A sensational arrest was made in connection with the Eveleigh robbery. A strong detachment of detectives surrounded a cottage in Albert Park, a “classy” residential suburb. A couple of them were forcing a window when a man named Ernest Ryan appeared, armed with a revolver, and threatened to fire. The window gave way, and the detectives, knocking the revolver aside, grabbed Ryan. The other detectives forced the back door and surprised two women and a man. It is alleged that one woman attempted to extract a revolver from her pocket. The police secured the other woman, who tried to get to a jug containing a revolver. All were taken to the police station . A big crowd watched the coup, and the police had difficulty in forcing a way through with the arrestees; Ryan was subsequently charged as a principal in the Eveleigh hold-up. The police believe that lie is the identical man who eluded their attempt to capture him at Strathfield on June 16. They have been on the look-out for Him for some time, and believed he had reached Melbourne only a few hours before his arrest.
