EAST COAST RAILWAY.
REPRESENTATIONS TO THE GOVERNMENT. [Pee Prkss Association.] Whakatane, July 1. The annual meeting of the united Bay of Plenty Railway League was attended by representatives of local and public bodies throughout the Bay oi Plenty, and also from the Waikato. A resolution was passed strongly protesting against the slow rate of progress in the construction of the East Coast railway, and requesting the Ooverninent to at once make a permanent survey in order to complete the authorised route between Tauranga and Opotiki, and to place on the Estimates a sufficient sum to construct the line as far as Mangaeroa, near Whakatane; also, urging the Government to place the Rotorua-Paengaroa connection upon the Railway Authorisation Bill this session.
