A Sudden Death.
MR GEORGE COLLINGWOOD, IN SALVATION ARMY HALL. - There was a larger crowd than usual at the Salvation Army Hall last night on the occasion of the monthly social, but very soon after the time set down for commencement of the entertainment, proceedings were terminated abruptly by the death of Mr George Collingwood, an old and respected resident of Stratford. Mr Collingwood had been requested to preside over the gathering and he had given a short speech and one or two items had been given when he fell back in his chair. At once Dr. Steven was telephoned for and he arrived on the scene promptly, but his assistance was of no avail, as death must have occurred soon after Mr Collingwood was seen to fall back. The occurrence came as a great shock to the audience and was rendered the more tragic from the fact that Mrs Collingwood was among those present. Mr Collingwood, who was well-known for his work in the Methodist Church, was 69 years of age, and he leaves a widow and grown up family.
