THAT FATAL “DUMMY.”
EVIDENCE AT THE INQUEST '[Per Pkebb Association. 1 Wellington, June 29. At the inquest on the little girl whoso death was caused by a “dummy” getting fixed in the windpipe, the adopting mother stated that she had endeavored to, get the dummy away with her fingers but failed to do so. She. telephoned to Dr.' Gibbs, who found the child suffocated. He uuavailingly tried artificial respiration. Had a tape or string been attached to the dummy the accident could not have happened. Neither could it had a larger dummy been used. The mother stated that she had taken the dirty tape away from the dummy intending to replace it with a clean one after dressing it. The doctor said that if the child had been taken by the legs and held downwards the dummy might have come away. The fingers resulted in imbedding the dummy more firmly in the back of the month. The Coroner returned a verdict of death caused by suffocation,; adding; that the adopting parentsJdid ail possible' under the distressing circumstances.- -
