The Catholic Union presented an address to Cardinal Gasquet, who, in reply, said the world seems destined to drift further from the Christian ideals on which civilisation was founded. Outside the Catholic faith, th» tendency was towards absolute vague, ness and uncertainty on the part of those who conduced to believe «siything at all of the truths of Christianity.
