A Press Association telegram from Wellington states that the Legislative Council met at 11 a.m. and passed the Imprest Supply in all its stages. At Taumarunui, a young man named Wright, a Tasmanian, aged 22, was killed yesterday afternoon at McHugh's sawmill., Taringamutu, by a blow from a rope.—P.A. In connection with the burglary of " a Gisborne jewellery establishment a fortnight ago, the police arrested John i Robert Marsh, a driver employed by a local carrying firm,and charged him with complicity in the affair. Accused was before the Court tins morning and remanded for a week. Further developments are expected, adds the Press Association. The "Whangamonioua people are making a red-letter day of Wednesday on the occasion of the initiation, of - through daily traffic from the main line. The Hon. Mr Herries, Minister of Railways, ,w|H be present, and the ceremony.in connection with the opening will take place at one o'clock. An endeavor is being matte to obtain the services of a'special train for the convenience of visitors to the gathering. The Mayor of Stratford (Mr W. P. Kirkwood)/wbo has been interesting himself in the- matter, states that in; the event of the special train being arranged, it will leave Stratford about 9.30 a.m. The social at Stanley Road School on Thunsday * next promises to be the most successful function ever held in the district. A large number of Stratford people have signified their intention of being present to enjoy an evening with their country friends. Messrs Masters and Marfell (members of the Education Board), will be present, and among- the tocalists to appear during-the. evening are Miss Knox, Miss Sullivan, Miss Evelyn Rog- ' ers, Miss Emma Rogers, Miss Ella Sangster, Messrs Hawkins, Sullivan, and Douglas, while step-dances will be given by Joe Wade, junr., accompanied by the -bagpipes. The supper will be in the hands of the ladies 1 under the supervision of Mrs Sangster.
