A. and P.
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. GENERAL BUSINESS. The executive committee of the A. and P. Association met last night. Present: Messrs E. Jackson (president, in the chair), D. J. Malbne, F. Dobson, E. Kelleher, J. Shotter, J. D. Healy, R. Dangle, W. H. H. Young, J. Brake and W. P. Kirkwood. A letter was received from the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, stating that this year's spring show would be held on November 4th, sth and 6th. It was decided
that the Stratford dates be December 2nd and 3rd. Mr G. D. Hunter, secretary of the Gun Club, wrote asking for permission for the Club to hold matches on the showground and to store their gear in some of the biuldings.—Mr Kirkwood said the Club had been shooting on the racecourse, but they found it inconvenient to shoot owing to the operations of golfers.—Mr Hunter attended and stated that owing to the Club shooting more in winter than hitherto they* interfered with golfers. If the Club had a big-match they might apply for permission to shoot inside the ring,.but for ordinary purposes it was proposed to use a'piece of ground east of the horse boxes.—Mr Dingle drew attention to the fact that in some cases when people used the ground they did not take care to replace anything shifted.—Mr Hunter said the Club.always cleared up after every sheofc.—lt was decided to grant, the permission asked for provided the Association's tenant raises no objection, the site to be selected by the ground committee; that the Club be held responsible for any damage, and that .no dogs be allowed on the ground. Mr D. Watkih wrote stating that he desired to, withdraw his resignation. Mr A; Spence wrote resigning membership of the Association* owing.,to leaving the district.—Mr Jackson said Mr Spence had been an excellent member.-
. Messrs Herbert, H. Masters and , Bowen, of the Poultry Society, waited * on the committee.—Mr Herbert said the poultry show had been run successfully for two years. For the last show the receipts for the first day totalled about £22. The non-success of the. Society was largely due to management,, and they felt that if the show was run under a good secretary it.could be made a success. The Society had not much in the way of , assets, beyond two good cups. The d»te of the spring show was a bit late, but if the Association could not hold a Bhow in the winter the Society would be quite agreeable to have the show run with the spring show. The members of the Society would take charge of, the poultry section—all they a desiri ed Jo be relieved of was the secretarial . \work. —Mr Bowen said that last year the Society had four hundred entries for their ghoWv-*-Mr Herbert said the Society had no liabilities.—lt was decided that the matter be held over till next meetings more information to be obtained in the meantime. • The question of putting a wooden floor in the dining room was discussed, and the general opinion expressed . was that the work should be done before the next show. Messrs Brake, Kelleher, Young, Dobson and Kirkwood were elected a committee to revise the schedule. Mr Kirkwood stated that the combined ' Band and Beautifying Society committee arranging for the Queen Carnival desired the Association to nominate a country candidate. The committee had advanced the arrangements and he expected that the trophies would be on view in a few days. —The matter ■was held over till the committee's meeting next Friday evening.
