AUSTRALIA'S NAVY.
MODIFIED BUILDING POLICY. [for KIiSOXBIO TeMBGBAPH—COPYBIGHT; [Unitkd Pbebi Association.] (Received 9.35 a.m.) Melbourne, June 25. In the Senate, Mr Millen outlined the modified naval programme. In place of the three submarines and six destroyers first proposed, it is intended to build two light cruisers of the Brisbane class and two improved submarines. The reason for the change was that • it was not improbable that the present type of destroyers would disappear altogether, being replaced by the immersible torpedoer, and ■ that cruisers were of more naval value than torpedoers. The cost of the modified programme, £1,700,000, would be spread over five years.
