AMUSEMENTS.
BERNARD'S PICTURES. There was a rare collection of star ■'pictures and a largo audience at Bernard’s last evening. The leading feature, “An Hour Before Dawn,’' proved to be a most exciting female detective drama. “The Little Hero,” adapted from the well-known song, was produced in a realistic manner. Keystone’s comedy, “Zuza, the Bandmaster,” is a skit on the worldfamous Sousa. “The Gaumout Graphic” teems with the latest doings throughout the world, showing good racing at Windsor and Jack Johnson signing on to fight Moran. Tomorrow's change includes a magnificent wild animal drama “A Prisoner in the Harem,” The scene is laid in India, and commences with a remarkable representation of the grief of Torn, an Indian girl, who has been sold by her father to the reigning Sultan. She is loved by young Akbar, who, like herself, is of humble origin, and her grief is terrible to witness.’ The Sultan compels Torn to witness her lover’s sufferings in the tiger’s den, but to her joy she finds that, the animal had not injured him. The Sultan, mad with rage, rushes into the cage and draws his sword upon Akbar. The tiger comes to Akbar’s aid and kills the .Sultan. Akbar is released, and the new Sultan, obeying the customs of his country, declares that Torn must be considered as the late monarch’s widow and must therefore he burned to death. Akbar secures the aid of British troops, and as the flames‘burst out on the funeral pyre, the weird strains of the pipes of the Gordon Highlanders are heard in the distance. Torn, now, safe from the hands of her persecutors, is joined by Akbar, and in the final picture we see them in their home, with a smile on the face of the tiger beside them.
