BERNARD’S PICTURES. The new series of pictures to be presented to-night consists of a special array of star pictures of great variety. The star drama “Shadow of Guilt,” or “A Fight for a Millionaire’s Millions.” is thrilling in the extreme. Arnold, secretary: to Van Dam, a millionaire, learns that Emily is his employer’s heir. i’ne giv! loves Doane. however, and repulse:- the secretary’s advances, and the two 'are' married that* night. In rage, the millionaire destroys the will which leaves his fortune to Emily and makes Arnold his heir. Finding his health failing, Van Ham decides to go abroad, and Van Dam discovers his secretary’s treachery. Confronted with the proof of his villainy, Arnold fells Van Dam and imprisons him in the garret of the mansion. Doane and Emily are notified to call at. the Van Dam mansion for the purpose of hearing the millionaire’s will read. While the will is being read, Van Dam tries desperately to free himself of his bonds. The man accidentally upsets an oil lamp, which starts a blaze. Doane accidentally learns of the millionaire’s presence in the garret and plunges through the raging inferno to save him. Arnold, who attempts to stop the boy, is felled to the floor. Van Dam and his rescuer emerge from the burning building. Arnold recovers and finds himself strapped.

DOMINION DAIRY SHOW, HAWERA. Hawera’s great winter festival opens at 12 o’clock on Wednesday, and the city of the plains will no doubt see a great influx of people from far and near to take part in the ceremony, whilst at the same time viewing one of the most attractive exhibitions of machinery, dairy and farm produce, home industries, fancy work, poultry, dogs, fruit, etc., yet seen in connection with the Dominion Dairy Show. In addition to the Show there will he representative Rugby football on Wednesday and Saturday; a military gymkhana on Thursday, pigeon shooting, etc. The railway service will suit all who have to journey by train, excursion fares being the order of the day. The show closes on Saturday night.
