Mr S. G. Potter, for many years resident’ in Stratford, but now of the Waikato, is at present on a visit to Stratford. 1 / Members of the Stratford Club entertained I>r. Robertson on the eve of his departure for Britain and made him a presentation as a mark of esteem and regard. Professor -Peterson, of the Ormond chair of music in the Melbourne University since 1900 is dead, reports the cables'. Deceased, who was 53 years of age, was very prominent in musical circles as examiner for the Edinburgh University and the Royal College of Music, London, and was the author of numerous articles and books on music. Mr H. A. Fox, who was one of the .victims of the recent Main Ti uuk railway smash, and whose injuries were at first supposed to be slight, is in a serious condition. “Time alone, he says, in a letter to thte W ellington Central Chamber of Commerce, r which was read on Friday, “can restore me to perfect health.” The chamber passed a motion of sympathy, which also expressed the hope that his recovery would be rapid. Mr W. J. Lopdell, engineer to the Waimate West County Council, was at the special meeting of the Stratford County Council on Saturday appointed engineer for the Stratford County. Mr Lopdell started his engineering career in the Railway Department, being afterwards transferred to the Public Works Department, being given charge of work on the Midland railway. Then he took a position as foreman of works and inspector for the Southland County. He filled this post for seven years and subsequently qualified himself as. a civil engineer, and was then appointed assistant engineer to the County. This position he resigned to join the Waimate West Cqunty.
