Before the Venereal Commission Dr. Skinner gave evidence of diminution in the British Army and said that syphilis is a disease not to be attributed to divine retribution or sin, and ought to be treated not by scourgings, but by every means modern modical and surgical skill provided.
ACTION IN WELLINGTON.

Following are the chief recommendations of a committee set up by the Hospital Board to consider the question of venereal diseases:—(l) That facilities be provided at the hospital and dispensaries for the treatment of persons suffering from venereal diseases; (2) that no charge be mada to the medical practitioners in the Wellington hospital district for testa made in the bacteriological department in connection with examinatisni made in regard to venereal diseases; (3) that the local branch of the British Medical Association be asked to co-operate with the Board for the purpose of giving lectures in connection with venereal diseases. Recommendations are also made for lecturer on the matter by a number of institrutions.
