It was not known whether the Trust was operating extensively i’i Sydney, but the fact remains that a considerable portion of the output ol meat was being purchased by certain firms whose names were usually associated with the alleged American Meat Trust. Very few Queensland cattle were coming forward. The excitement and uncertainty , which exist in trade circles were due to a large extent to the fact that American firm? were becomig keen competitors for the purchase of New South Wales meat. Melbourne, June 17. The meat exporting trade is practically at a standstill. Many slaughtermen are idle. The lack of production and the high prices ruling for such stock as is available are responsible for the stagnation.
