Thompson's Death.

The guard at the head of a bridge over a canal near the town was surprised by insurgents and driven in. Reinforcements, consisting of the MaliSsori, were sent, and they held the trenches on either side of th(s road. -. A furious fire was maintained, and much ammunition wasted. Colonel Thompson urged the defenders to leave the trenches and advance. He showed them the way, and several followed, hut promptly returned to the trenches. The Colonel was hit in the neck and fell in the open, but no Albanian went to his assistance. Two Europeans carried him to his house, where he died a few minutes later. The defence of the Prince of Wied’s residence and the Legations has been assigned to Italian sailors. FURTHER PARTICULARS' OF THE FIGHT.

The defenders had two killed and 35 wounded. f The insurgents renewed the attack and are now within 1000 yards of the Palace. The defenders were reinforced from Sangiovanni and Alessio. Prince' Weid telegraphed -to the Queen of Netherlands that the victory was due to Colonel Thompson’s cool and heroic leadership.
