ENGLAND BEATS QUEENSLAND. (Ut Elkoteio Tkljkueaph—CojersiGEfj [United Punas Association.] Brisbane, June 13. The weather was fine for the League match, -England v. Queensland. The visitors,'after leading at half time by 13 points to nil, eventually won by 18 to 10. Fourteen thousand people were present. The first half was very fast. Scorers were: For England, Williams (2), Francis and Davis (1). Thomas converted a try, and Guerin landed a penalty goal, and a goal from a mark; for Queensland, McCabe and Scott a try each. H. Bolerski converted one, and also landed a penalty goal. Sydney, June 13. At Rugby football, Mew South Wales defeated Queensland by 20 points to 11. The match was preceded by a number of seven-a-side games, and teams from the various district clubs played for the first time in Australia, and created considerable interest.

Inglewood 11, Stratford 39 v. Okato nil. Clifton won from Star by default. The first round of the senior competition was concluded on Saturday. All the games wore played in fine weather, and the heavy scoring was a feature of the play. Stratford met Okato at New Plymouth, winning easily by 39 to nil. The Okato men lacked the combination of the Stratford team, and they wore less up in the finer points of the game. The scoring was done by Whittington (two tries), Young (two tries), Smith (two tries), Bonner, Dewar, Woods, Collins and Smith. With a dry ground and ball the Stratford backs were able to operate freely, and showed some nice passing. Mr Snell refereed. The game between Tukapa and Inglewood, at Inglewood, was one of the best seen on tho ground. Play was fast throughout, and the Inglewood forwards showed up especially well, on several occasions smothering tho visitors’ efforts to score. There was not much between the teams, and a few minutes before time with the score Tukapa IG, Inglewood 11, Inglewood looked to have a good chance of winnings, but Lovoridge scored for the visitors and converted, the score standing at. 21—11 when the whistle sounded. Mr W. F. Snurdle refereed. Owing to Star not being able to raise a team tbev forfeited to,Clifton.
