a-..* ’ * -n- p„ ' The death of the Grand Duke of ; Mecklenberg-Strelitz 'is announced from Berlin. Probate of the. will of the late George Hampton Rhodes has been granted (reports a Press Association message from Christchurch). The estate Was sworn at under £158,000.' The estate is disposed of between the widow and children of tho deceased, gentleman and others. The Rev. Hector Maclean, M.A., r M.Sc., a former student of Otago University, is going next winter to Berlin University to prosecute his studies. He is making a special study of Hebrew and cognate languages and will probably return to New Zealand in tho middle of 1915. Mr W. H. Hawkins, Liberal candidate for Stratford seat, returned to town yesterday afternoon after having spent several days in the backblocks. Mr Hawkins speaks in glowing terms of, the hearty hospitality accorded him by , settlers in all districts visited. He assisted at the Whangamomona School social on Wednesday with song and recitation. This social was very successful. The Rev. G. T. Brown, M.A., an old student of Otago University, who has' been studying for the ministry of the Presbyterian Church at the United Free*Church College at Glasgow, has completed his course and sailed on
Saturday for Canada. He jvill spend the summer months in one of the Home Mission stations in the Dominion and then proceed to Now Zealand, where he should arrive in November.
