The America Cup.
CHOICE OF THE DEFENDER AN EXPERT’S OPINION. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.} London, June 6. • Mr Johnston Richie, an expert, who has seen American defence yachts, considers the Shamrock IV. tiie best. Should Resolute be chosen as the defender, she would probably claim nine minutes allowance from Shamrock IV. over thirty miles.
THE THIRD TRIAL. York, June 7. The Vanitie defeated the Resolute in the third sailing test. States the Daily Mail Year Book for 1914; Sir Thomas Lipton has challenged America for the Cup in truly sportsmanlike determination. The races will take place on the 10th, 12th, and 15th of September, and Sir Thomas’s yacht will be Shamrock IV. The duration of the races will be six hours. It is probable America will race more than one defending yacht. The British yacht will be 75 feet long, and is being designed by Mr C. Nicholson.
