GERMAN COMPANIES’ PLANS.

The general manager of the Norddeutscher Lloyd and the general agency of the Gonnan-Australian Steamship Co. have received cable advices that their respective head offices have decided to start a reguT&r direct line from Continental ports to New Zealand, beginning in July next, and maintain alternatively four-weekly sailings. They also advise that the British and German steamship lines are conducting negotiations regarding amicable co-operation. THE FIRST PORT OF CALL. (Received 9.20 a.m.) Sydney, June 5. The new German lines from Bremen, Antwerp, and Hamburg, via the Cape, will make the Bluff the first port of call and will work north to Auckland, calling at all the principal ports. The steamers will he 10,000 tenners, and will be fitted with cold storage and wireless, and will have a speed of 12 to 13 knots. MESSAGERIES MARITIMES. (Received 9.25 a.m.) Sydney, June 5. The Messageries Maritimes Company has decided to open a new route to Australia monthly Marseilles, via Port Said, Colombo, Batavia, Torres Straits, Noumea, Brisbane, and Sydney. Tho steamers will carry passengers and cargo. The Company will inaugurate the service early in 1915.
