BIBLE IN SCHOOLS. [Pee Peebs Association. 1 Dunedin, June 4. At the Otago Educational Institute to-day, it was moved that the Institute regards authoritative teaching o fthe Bible as the only satisfactory basis of moral training. After a very brief discussion, it was resolved to pass to the next business, the mover of the amendment expressing the view that they might be six years discussing tho question, THE MAIN TRUNK SMASH. Christchurch, June 4. The Lyttelton Harbor Board this morning adopted a resolution expressing sympathy with the relatives of those killed in the recent Main Trunk disaster, also with those injured. Mr A. Kaye said the sleeper should not be placed in front of the train, for in case of accident those in the sleeper were far less able to help themselves than were those in the open carriages. Mr J. J. Dougall said that the sleepers ought to be placed at the end o fthe train, to avoid the nuisance of people passing through them. It mattered very little what end the sleeper was, for the chances of accident were oven. It was a “panic matter,” and he did not think the Board should deal with it. Mr Kaye said there was less chance of a train being smashed from the rear than from the front. The end was not the proper place for the sleepei not in the night time, at all events. The car should at nightfall be changed from the end to the middle. It was decided to draw the attention of the Railway Department to the matter of the position of the sleeper.
