THE WORLD'S MEAT SUPPLIES.
Amid the troubles of the beef trade it is interesting to find that while advancing far too slowly, the United Kingdom, France, and Austua-Hun-gary ore adding to their herds. I'i't when we come to sheep, the decline is marked and dangerous. Australia shows eight millions decline in the tour years. Canada 620,000 deci r.e, France nearly a million, and the 1 isited Kingdom -1,000,000. German Hocks have declined by four million" in tuelv> years, Russian by two millions in four years, and American by three and a half million since 1909 These countries which are going hack in their sheepbreeding show a total loss of twenty-three million sheep. The country which is putting its back into sheepbreeding is Argentina, which, has added fifteen millions in five years. Much-talked-about New Zealand, with its Canterbury lamb, has only added 270,000 to its flocks; in fact, it is not keeping up to the demand. These figures, which are se: out in an Australian journal, are certainly worthy of study by our farmers and meat growers.
