Durbar IT., tbo winner of this year’s English Derby, was bred in France, and so, albeit he is owned by an American sportsman, tbe defeat of Nimbus last year lias, to some extent at least, been avenged, states a sporting writer; He was only raced once last season, when lie finished unplaced in the Omnium Deux Aus, of SOOOsovs., live and a half furlongs, at Maisons-Laflito. His sire, Rabelais, is a son of St. Simon that has been getting a fair share of winners in France during the past lew years. Oddly enough, he was at one time very nearly coming to New Zealand, tbe only stumbling block being that the New Zealand studinaster’s English agant declined to pass him as sound, ffapsburg, who was second, was a smart performer last year, but he was presumably beaten out ol a place in the Two Thousand. The third horse, Peter the Hermit, started ;even times last year, but his iorm was very moderate, and he was only twice placed.
