THE 1914 ENGLISH DERBY. THREE LENGTHS TO Sf»ARE, [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] ICnited Press Association.] (Received 8.30 a.m.) London, May 27. The result of the Derby was as follows : Durbar 1 Hapsburg ... ... ... 2 Peter the Hermit ... ... i 3 DESCRIPTION OF THE RACE. (Received 10.3-3 a.m.) London, May 27. There were thirty starters, equalling the field in Hermit’s year, which was partly due to a Calcutta sweep. One owner was offered £3OO to run his horse, but he declined. Kennymore was troublesome at the post. He drew the extreme outside position, and was hopelessly left. Polycrates, Black Jester, and Hapshurg were leading at Tattenham Corner. Durbar then forged ahead descending the hill, went right away in the straight, and won easily by three lengths. Brakospear. the King’s representative, was sixth. Durbar’s connections little fancied his chance, and their winnings were small.
