BERNARD'S PICTURES.
Last night's new programme of pictures.,at Bernard's Theatre proved to be one of the best yet shown at the only amusement house of Stratford. The star drama "By Man's Law,'.' is indeed' a great lesson concerning the Gods, of gold, where wealth, is unevenly divided. To-mor-row's programme will introduce the famous Pathe drama "The Bridge of Terror." The story is as follows:M. Burtain, the manager of the Malvillo steelworks, who lias received an order for a new bridge to replace a suspension foot-bridge that crosses the ri.'cr near the works, asks each of his two assistants, .Tack Levaillant and Lucien Rumpel, to submit a design. They set tqwork at once, but whilst, Jack makes, rapid progress, Lucien cannot evolve a single idea, and vvatche3 his rival with growing jealousy. But their rivalry is not conlined to business, for both love Gormiuno, M. Burtain's daughter. Here again, .Tack proves himself the better man, "and his success fans the smouldering fire of Lucien's jealousy into deadly hatred. The clay for submitting the designs finds Jack ready, whilst Lucien has not' even made n preliminary sketch. Dreading the exposure of his incapacity, Lucien takes a tracing of his opponent's plans, and then chance offers him the opportunity of getting rid of his enemy for good. Seeing Jack alone on the foot-bridge, Lucien cuts the cables, and precipitates him into the river. When Jack revives, he expose;, Lucien's villainy, and the would-be murderer is handed over to the law.
