ANOTHER COMMISSION.
ON THE LAND QUESTION. [Per Prkss Association.] Wellington, May 26. The Government has appointed a Commission to examine into the conditions under which land is held 'from the Crown with a view to providing tenures more satisfactory to settlers and at the same time safeguard the interests of the State. The members of the Commission are:— Mr Strauchon (late Under-Secretary for Lands), Major Lusk (President of the Auckland Farmers' Union), and John Allman Marchant (managing director of the Ruatapu sawmill, near Hokitika). The Commission will conduct inquiries in the first instance in Westland'and Nelson. Afterwards with possibly some slight alterations in the personnel and in the order 1 of reference, it will extend its inquiries to the north of Auckland, then going to the Thames, Paerpa and Rotorua districts.
