NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE.
The other day Mr Harold Beauehamp, of Wellington received a letter from : Mr J. A. Kuddick, now Canadian Director of the Department of Agriculture at Ottawa, but formerly well known in New Zealand as Director of the Dairy Produce Division of the Department of Agriculture. Amongst other things, Mr Kuddick writes: "You will understand that I am much interested in the continued increase in the exports of butter from New Zealand to Vancouver, and also to San Francisco. I was in Philadelphia a few days ago, and, calling on a produce house there, they showed me a box of New Zealand butter bearing the 'Kaihihi' brband. You would have been amused if you had hoard the people in the place pronounce it. lam of the opinion that there is likely to be a very large trade in butter from New Zealand and'Australia to the Tinted States in the near future. The first rush of imports had a sensational effect on the market, out of all proportion to the actual quantity imported, an! the United States price tumbled very rapidly for a while; but there ia no doubt that they have reached a pejiod of actual shortage, and must have supplies from outside. Canada is not shipping any butter to United States. Our market has been a little higher than the United States market during the last two or three months. We are shipping comparatively small quantities- of milk and cream across the border, because these articles are duty free. We have had somo pretty cold weather rocently. For' about three weeks the temperature was below zero Fahrenheit every night, and or.ee or twice went down to about SOdeg. The sun ia getting stronger, however, and it is qufce springlike now, and we expect the snow to go away very shortly."
