Tahiti was a few hours ont from Raratonga to Sau Francisco on April 1 a trimmer named Leslie MacPherson met his death under tragic circumstances. • About. 7 a.m. deceased was ivorking in the vessel’s bunkers, Avheu be Avas overwhelmed by a heavy fall of coal. MacPherson was extricated with difficulty, and it Avas found he Avas seriously hurt. The ship’s surgeon Avas quickly in attendance, and he discovered that the unfortunate man Avas"' suffering from a fractured skull. MacPherson lingered till 3 p.ni., Avheu be died. Tlie Tahiti was stopped and the body taken ashore in a launch by the firemen and trimmers, and the funeral took place at Raratonga. on the following day. Deceased Avas single, 26 years of age, and joined the Tahiti at Sydney before she left for 'Wellington on March 21.
