A Fine Cadet Review.

AT MEW PLYMOUTH. GENERAL HAMILTON PLEASED. General Sir lan Hamilton, Inspec-tor-General of the Overseas Forces, arrived in New Plymouth about 1 o'clock yesterday, accompanied by tie Hon. James Allen, Minister for defence, . and General Godley (General Officer Commanding Xew Zealaal Forces). The party were entertained at luncheon by the Borough Councl, among those present being the Mayor of Stratford (Mr W. P. Kirkwood). After luncheon General Hamilton was shown various points of interest in N.'a town. In the afternoon the Taranaki cade.a were reviewed on the racecourse, :.<ie parade state being 948 of all rantvS, eighteen companies being represented. The boys were inspected and the.a marched past, the spectators greeting them with,*!hearty cheers. After the review General Hamilton presented shooting prizes won during the ;»ast vear, the Stratford winners being:— No. I J. Ibbotson, No. II E. R. Black.. High School, Coutts. The General then gave a short address, in which he spoke highly of the work of the boys. It was not, he said, easy to gather much from viewing a ceremonial parade, but one could see something of the way in which the companies were manoeuvred, and could judge of the steadiness, physique, and conduct under arms of the men engaged; and he could say without flattery that he had seen nothing better than the Taranaki cadets. They had been steady in the ranks, and the march past was very creditable, only a few details, which he pointed out, needing improvement. He referred to ; the training which the boys were re?eiving in the work of defending dr oreparing to defend the Empire, and congratulated them on the spirit in which it was undertaken. No less than 120 members' of the Veterans' Association were draAvn up on the ground, and General Hamilton was much interested in inspecting them. In tihe evening the General was present at" a complimentary dinner given by members of the Taranaki Club, and later attended a dinner at which the :New Plymouth veterans entertained their Haw-era brethren.* ' I '. i ■' '
