A CORRECTION.
[To The Editor Stratford Post.] Sir, —By a brief report of the Liberal meeting held in Whangamomona on Saturday evening last, and published in your yesterday’s issue, an error inadvertently crept in. The error is contained in the following passage:— “No doubt it would be said he was once a. Conservative, but lie challenged his opponents, and was giving them plenty of time, to prove that any time in the House he had voted for them.” The error which I desire to correct is contained in the latter part of the above quotation. What I did say was that, if my opponents could prove that I, when in the House, had attended a Conservative caucus, which was 'the true test as between an independent and a party man, I would retire from the contest. As you are no doubt well aware, sir, any member of Parliament who, claiming to be an Independent, attends a caucus of any recognised political party, cannot any longer claim to be an Independent. This is, the world over, recognised as the final test.—l am, etc., W. H. H. HAWKINS. Stratford, May 20th, 1914.
