The conditions governing the contests are much the same as those which governed Hugh D. M'lnMish's big .tug-of-war tournament in Sydney, a couple of years ago. The teains ; will pull on battens at. least lift 3in apart. Both ends of the rone must be free. There will be a time limit of four minutes on each pull. Each team will have the right to compete until it has been beaten thrice.

Christchurch will be represented by a strong team, and it is reported that several other formidable teams, including the Auckland police, the Wellington drivers,. Speight's Brewery team, and hitherto unbeaten teams from [nvercargill and the West Coast will be among the competitors. Each team will consist of seven men. The members of the Christchurch Physical Culture team will be:—A. Thorpe (weight lost 61b), E. Borough .'lost 41b), ,1. Fingland (list 81b), W. .1. Johnstone (14st), L. Atkinson (lost 31b), J. Fry (13st 31b), C. Price (12st 21b) j emergency, M. Hog:ui (lost). All are powerful men in excellent condition, and with plenty of "snap." They are not mere slow heavy men (states the Sun), but strong fellows whose training is such that it gives them plenty of quickness und muscle control, so they should have a good chance of winning.
