NOVEL INSURANCE.

The introduction of a system to secure longevity among its policy-hold-ers by the New York Equitable Insurance Company, by the establishment of bureaux where medical advice may be obtained free, may be considered by some of t the leading English insurance companies (says the "Standard"). It is, however, felt that the establishment of such a system in this country might not be used to any profitable extent by insured persons or welcomed by medical men. Friendly societies, too, are of opinion that such a scheme would not be feasible. Mr Alexander Lawson, manager and secretary of the Gresham Assurance Society, said that the scheme had proved popular in the United States, and had been watched with much interest by English life assurance companies. So far nothing in that direction had been done in Britain, and he di'l not know of any British company that was likely to try the experiment. He said that it might have many advantages.
