THE DENMANS’ DEPARTURE

Speaking at a farewell Parliamentary luncheon, Messrs Cook and Fisher eulogised Lord Denman’s administration. Lord Denman, replying, said he had been here long enough to understand the underlying feelings of Australians in regard to a White Australia, and he recognised that the Australian would never be content to rely upon a treaty with any foreign power—however friendly that power was—for the defence of the Pacific.
