A BIG HOTEL.

The correspondent of •> Melbourne Journal refers to the contrast in the matter of comfort and convenience, between English hotels and those of the big American cities, whibh has long boon noticed. An English hotel, howover, lias boon built which is said to challenge comparison with the best hotels in the world. This hotel is at Liverpool, the port whore thousands of American visitors arrive each year, and where thousands of British visitors to the United States embark. This trafllc is the most profitable passenger traffic in the world. The large companies in England own large hotels in the chief cities through which their lines pass. These hotels are within a few yards of the railway stations, and are, therefore, well patronised by travellers. A typical instance is the Liverpool Adelplh, which is said to easily outclass all other hotels of that city. By attracting travellers to the hotel the Midland Adelphi Company will also secure travellers by its railway. at the expense of rival railway companies. The new hotel is a striking building architecturally. It has six floors, and five hundred bedrooms. There is a telephone in each bedroom, and a man in bed can not merely ring up anyone in Liverpool, but a person in London, Paris, or Berlin. The restaurants, dining-rooms, and other public rooms of the hotel are furnished on a scale of magnificence, and the private suites are said to bo furnished in a way which suggests the artistic interior of a. wealthy homo. Each bedroom, except those on the top floor, has its own bathroom.
