On Wednesday, 29th April, we held a successful demon stmt ion of stumping with, eruptite on ilv A. .1). Johnson's property at Lowgarth, to a large held of farmers, who expressed satisfaction at the work done. On Thursday, 30th April, wa held another demonstration ot stumping with eruptite on Mr W. H. Rowe's farm, Robson Road, Pukengahu. There were 21 people present, and were all entirely satisfied with the explosive powers of eruptite, which split and scattered solid stumps. On Tuesday last we held our usual fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards. We had a small yarding of 485 head of cattle and 97 sheep, most of which were sold at the hammer or afterwards at full prices. Cows, old and low in condition 425, 57s Gd, 58s and 08s, forward cows /7s Gd, 81s, 82s 6d, and up to 110 s, fat cows 120 s, 131 k, 1355, 1425, hulls 92s 6d, 2| year -steers in good demand 97s to 106 s 6d, •JO month steers 725, 77s up to 853, empty heifers (dull) 51s, 55s and 565, heifers in calf (dull) 70s, weaner heifers (poor) 10s 6d up to 26s 6d, 31s, 33s Gd, 34s and 35s 6d, mixed weaners 18s Gd, 19s, 225, 31s, 33s 6d, weaner steers 235, 27s 6d and 355, forward y ' - awes 14s 3d. OiKthe same day we held our monthly sale of wool, sheepskins, hides and hallow. Wo had a small catalogue, mostly composed of farmers' produce. There was a large attendance of buyers and competition was keen for wool and good sound sheepskins, while hides ■ind calfskins were easier and are likely to be so for some weeks to come. Everything was cleared at full market prices as follows:—Crossbred fleece np to SJd, lambs 8d to B}d, dead up to Bd, pieces 6Jd, locks 3|d to 4d. Sheepskins.—Farmers' lines, pelts Is to Is Id, crossbred fair lines 6s 8d to 6s 9d, fair wool 2s 11(1, medium 3s 6d, 4s, to 5s 4d. onp skin realised 13s, salted r.kins, little wool Is 9d. Farmers should save their skins better. Cowhides, farmers' lines 18s 3d, 22s 6d, 23s 6d up to 255, slipey 16s 3d, dry 24s 9d, yearling hides 7s 4d, 7s 7d, 8s f ;d, 9s 6d, bull hides 19s 9d to 21s, calfskins 4s 3d, 5s 3d, 5s lOd up to 7s 3d. Tallow in packages 225. Since we last reported we have been extremely busy and turned out a fair amount of stock to an unsatisfied demand. MATTHEWS, CAMLSN AND CO.'S REPORT. On Wednesday last we held our usual weekly sale,in our Inglewood yards and had a. very full yarding of stock, every pen being filled to the utmost. The yarding consisted chiefly of store cows a,nd weaners, the latter being rather dull of sale except for good steers, which sold well. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 6th May, 1914: Tallow—"We quote present spot values for the following descriptions: Good mutton 35s per cwt, good heef 33s 6d per cwt, mixed 30s 9d. The market has a lower tendency. Wheat—We have sold an Australian cargo at 36s 4*d c.i'.f. There is a fair demand owing to decreased supplies. Market not likely to improve at prent.
