LABOR'S TROUBLES.
DEPUTATIONS TO MR MASSEY. [Per Pkesb Association. I Wellington, May 8. A deputation waited on the Hon. Mr Massey this morning!; to put before him a resolution passed at a recent conference of arbitration unions. Replying, Mr Massey said he could init.fcoe why; they should object to the Labor Disputes Investigation Bill, which only concerned unions of employees and employers-outside the Arbitration Act. He had made up his mind that the Act should be given a trial, and administered in accordance with the intention of Parliament. He would carefully consider the other proposals, some Of which might possibly be embodied in the amending Bill, which he proposed to introduce next session. A deputation from the executive of the .Wharf Laborers' Union waited on Mr Massey and urged the establishment of a permanent staff of cargoworkers on the waterfront under the control of the Harbor Board. It was "suggested that the staff consist of 700 or 800 in en.—Mr Massey replied that personally he was in favor of some such scheme being adopted, and would consult the Cabinet and Harbor Board on the matter.
