OVERHAUL OF THE TARIFF. [By Electric Telegbaph—Copybight] [United Press Association.] Capetown, May 7. During the Budget debate in the Assembly, Mr Merriman, criticising the increased expenditure, recommended a careful and complete overhauling of the tariff, and the abandonment of preferential treatment of imports from Britain and Australia. DEPORTEDS GOING HOME. Capetown, May 8. The Natal Witeness states that the deporteds will travel by a German liner from a Continental port and disembark at Beira or Delagoa Bay, proceeding by railway to the Transvaal border, whence a conveyance will carry them to Johannnesburg, their arrival being timed to enable their dramatic appearance at the great trade union demonstration.
