UNDER CANVAS.
THE TAKAPAU CAMP. [Peb Pbkss, Association.! Takapau Camp, May 8. The Takapau camp is nearing its conclusion. To-morrow night the men will be paid, and on Sunday sixteen .rains will depart from Takapau, loaded with troops. Two mounted squadrons, Napier and Taranaki, left this ■norhing, riding home. Steady work has been resumed since, H ,he visit of General Sir lan Hamilton. To-morrow morning will be devoted to drill and in the afternoon to sports. The weather still continues wet, and on this account alone are the men looking forward to getting home. The casual camp commences on Monday. 'lt is estimated that 800 men will be under canvas.
DANNEVIRKE REJOICES. Dannevirke May 8. The "D" squadron of mounted rifles from Dannevirke Woodville and intermediate districts who won the Islington Shield presented for competitio-i amongst the squadrons *of the ninth regiment for general efficiency during 'the past 12 months, also at Oringi and Takapau camps, were accorded a civic welcome on returning to Dannevirke this afternoon. The Mayor eulogised their efforts and complimented the men on the distinction gained. Captam Armstrong, in returning thanks, said the reception indicated the interest of the community in the welfare of the mounteds. ■
