BOARD OF AGRICULTURE.
The new Board of Agriculture has now been formally constituted, and according to the statute must hold its first meeting within one month. It is supposed to consist of twelve persons, but only ten names appear, the Government having to appoint one member and the Canterbury A. and P. Associations to elect a representative in place of the late Mr 1). IX Macfarlane, who died after his nomination. The board consists at present of Messrs J. G. Wilson (Bulls), president; J. C. N. Grigg (Canterbury), vice-president; A. P. Allport (Nelson), E. Averill (Hawke’s Bay), R. Dingle (Taranaki), -E. Hall (Auckland), W. D. Hunt (Invercargill), A. S. Obeli (Otago), \Y. Perry (Masterton), and R. Reynolds (Cambridge). It lias been previously made clear that the functions of the board and purely advisory, but in that capacity the Minister of Agriculture (the Right Hon. W. F. Massey) expects that it can be of great value to the farming industry. It is understood the Board will commence work with a formidable agenda, the Minister informing a southern reporter that he hoped to refer to the new body for its advice upon experimental farms, whether they should be encouraged in preference to experimental plots, which in Mr Massey’s opinion have been much more successful. They will be asked to assist farmers in coming to gether for purposes of co-operation, and in every way help the Department to effectually do its work in assisting the man on the land to increase the country’s productivity.
