TUNA NOTES.

[from our own correspondent.] Despite the heavy downpour of last Friday night, the opening night of our euchre tournament was an unqualified success. The residents on the road turned out en masse and the number was further swelled by visitors from outside, which taxed the accommodation provided to the utmost. If Jay commenced at 7.15 p.m. and continued briskly till nearly 10 o’clock, during which time fifteen games were played, and at* tire conclusion some very faircards were handed in. Mr Jacob Kovaleski, with 13 wins, headed the list for the gentlemen, Messrs W. and F. Kovaleski playing off for second place. The former secured a narrow margin. Among the ladies the honors were more evenly contested, four playing off for first place, which was eventually secured by Miss J. Reid, with Miss Hamblyn second. The rearguard position was filled by Mr Hathaway, and some amusement was caused when he was presented with the small trifle which usually goes with the lowest score. Supper followed, and the ladies of the road are to bo congratulated on the quantity and quality of the fare provided. Dancing followed, and was maintained till about 2 a.m., to excellent music supplied by Mr Reid. Mr G. Reid made an efficient 51. C. The next match of the series rvill take place on 15th inst. Cards are all the rage now and a cribbage match at an early date is very probable. The creamery lias commenced running every other day, so that the end of the milking season is in sight. Two residents of the district at least have disposed of their properties and will shortly be leaving the district.
